AMC’s re-imagining of the late 60′s sci-fi television show The Prisoner began its three night, six hour run Sunday night. Starring Patrick McGoohan, the original The Prisoner is classic thinking man’s science fiction. The new AMC version stars Jim Caviezel in McGoohan’s role as protagonist Six and Sir Ian McKellen as the nefarious Two. The first two hours re-air tonight, Monday, starting at 6pm Eastern Time followed immediately by the third and fourth installments at 8. The final episodes air Tuesday night, again at 8pm Eastern .
I watched the first two episodes earlier and liked them enough to recommend them. It’s been a mediocre year for genre television. Heroes is a bore, V isn’t much better, Dollhouse is dead, Fringe is dying (though Fringe is good, it’s getting killed on Thursday nights) and Lost doesn’t start for weeks and weeks yet. The Prisoner may help to scratch your itch for non-vanilla viewing. Although, you don’t really need an excuse to watch Ian McKellan as a twinkle-eyed villain, do you? Let me know what you think.
