Irony Constitution Day

Irony Constitution Day

Today, September 17, is Constitution Day in the United States; the day the federal government celebrates the ratification of the U.S. Constitution on this date in 1787.  Colleges and universities across the country are having special events to ensure students understand the magnitude of the nation’s most important document; the very document every American public official swears to protect and defend.

In other news, today President Obama circumvented the U.S. Constitution by appointing Elizabeth Warren to the post of special advisor to the president in charge of overseeing the creation of the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, thereby alleviating the need for what surely would have been contentious Senate confirmation hearings; hearings that would have been necessary had Ms Warren been nominated as director.  Ms Warren, a Harvard law professor and noted Wall Street foil, is widely credited for having originated the concept for a consumer protection agency.

When asked his opinion, inconsequential blogger Jack Bronn responded by saying, “Laugh if you’re a liberal or rant if you’re a conservative; all Americans should be concerned about a government so flawed that a 59 vote majority in the Senate isn’t enough to stave off obstructionism and gridlock.”  Mr. Bronn was then smacked in the face with a large strawberry-rhubarb pie.
